The LIU Post women’s lacrosse team has added Nina Sarcona as assistant coach for the 2013 season, head coach Meghan McNamara announced. Sarcona joins the coaching ranks after a four-year playing career at University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Sarcona was an integral part of the UMass offense for four years, playing in 73 games.  During her senior season, she led the team in draw controls with 109, was second with a .673 shot percentage, ranked third with 37 goals, and fifth with 44 points.  Sarcona currently holds the UMass single-season record for draw controls with 109 in her senior year, and also is the UMass career draw control leader with 193.  During her final season, she was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference All-Academic Team, the Atlantic 10 Conference All-Tournament Team, the Atlantic 10 Conference Second-Team All-Conference, and the All-Region Team.

Also while at UMass, Sarcona was an intern for the UMass athletic training department in which she performed athletic training duties for the football team.  She also worked with collegiate athletes and performed various sports medicine duties in order to gain a better understanding of the athletic training atmosphere and injury protocol.  Starting in June 2012, Sarcona has worked with Island Sports Physical Therapy as a Physical Therapy Aid.  Since 2008, Sarcona has coached at the club level with the Long Island Elite Yellow Jackets, coaching girls ages 13-16.
