On Sept. 1, 2015, LIU Post Head Baseball Coach Mike Gaffney announced the addition of Lou Bernardi to the coaching staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

"I have known Lou for a number of years, dating back to when he was a student-athlete," Gaffney said. "He is one of the most up and coming coaches in this area and after some adjustments to our staff, it was a no brainer to bring him on. We are excited to get this season started with the group we have getting ready to come in."

Bernardi comes to Brookville after spending the last three seasons at neighboring SUNY Old Westbury, where he served as the team's pitching coach. At Old Westbury, his pitching staff broke several school records and was nationally-ranked in strikeouts per nine innings (4th), strikeout-to-walk ratio (21st), hits allowed per nine innings (23rd), WHIP (28th) and shutouts (29th) throughout his tenure. Four of his former pitchers went on to sign a professional contract.

Prior to SUNY Old Westbury, Bernardi coached at his alma mater, NYIT, in 2012. Since then, Bernardi has been coaching in some of the country's best summer collegiate leagues. He served as the head coach of the New York Atlantics of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League, where he guided his team to a Kaiser Division Championship in 2012. For the next two seasons, he was the head coach for the Westhampton Aviators of the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League, and in 2015, he was the acting head coach and pitching coach for the Thunder Bay Cats of the prestigious Northwoods League.

Bernardi played at NYIT from 2007-10, compiling over 160 innings on the mound. He finished his career with 67 appearances, good enough for third all-time in program history. In 2010, he received the Harold J. Hirschfield Memorial Leadership Award, which is given annually to a member of the baseball team who exemplifies leadership qualities both on and off the field.

After his playing days at NYIT, Bernardi went on to play independent ball for the St. George Roadrunners of the Golden League and the New York Federals of the New York State League.

Bernardi graduated from NYIT in May 2011 with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. He currently resides in New Hyde Park, N.Y.
