Joe Tarangelo started in every game during his four-year career at shortstop for the Pioneers. He was an All-Met selection and was awarded the Dr. Roy Illowit Award in 1983, given to a dedicated student-athlete who maintains a high academic average, and contributes to the athletic department through sportsmanship and fair play. In the 1982 Metropolitan Conference game, Tarangelo homered to help the Pioneers clinch the league title. After graduation, Tarangelo signed with the Minnesota Twins organization and spent the 1984 season with the Visalia Oaks of the California League.
