The 1996 NCAA Championship Lacrosse Team was the first ever C.W. Post team to win a national championship in any sport, as the Pioneers defeated Adelphi, 15-10, in the championship game. The team was led by Coach Tom Postel, and under his guidance, scored 138 goals during the year along with 91 assists. Jay Narvaez led the team with 48 points behind 24 goals and assists apiece. During the championship game, the Pioneers scored five unanswered goals over a four and half minute span during the second quarter to take a 8-2 lead. Todd Bolognese earned MVP Honors for the game with four-goal performance. The 15 goals were the second highest scoring output by the squad during the season, as the team also registered a shutout on the defensive end against Limestone on March 16. Kelly Bixler started all 13 games in goal for the Pioneers, posting a 62.4 save percentage with 156 saves on 250 shots. His record was 10-3 on the season and put together a 8.23 goals against average.
