Volleyball Punches Out Mercy, 3-1
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 14, 2008) – Junior outside hitter
Sammy Figliolia (Wantagh, N.Y.) registered a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs as C.W. Post defeated Mercy College, 3-1, Tuesday evening in East Coast Conference women's volleyball action at the Pratt Recreation Center. The match scores were 25-19, 19-25, 25-17 and 25-11.
The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Pioneers as they improve to 7-10 overall and 4-5 in the ECC. Mercy is the loser of six straight contests and falls to 6-17 overall and 1-9 in conference action.
Overall, the Pioneers outhit the Mavericks by a 119-118 margin.
Junior setter Trevene Smith posted a match-high 32 assists while teammate Mirlusca Montes had 17 digs.
In the first set, the Pioneers tallied 13 kills and registered a.265 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter
Lauren Brown (Mount Gilead, N.C.) tallied five kills and five digs in set.
Mercy took the second set with 13 kills and posted a 68 percent attacking percentage and capitalized on seven Pioneer miscues.
C.W. Post took control in the third set and eased through the fourth set with 12 kills.
Sophomore setter
Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 21 assists while senior
Lucia Krskova (Prievidza, Slovakia) had 17 assists.
C.W. Post will play at Concordia College on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
