Late Offensive Burst Sparks Volleyball Victory At NYIT, 3-2

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2008) – Trailing by two sets, C.W. Post battled back to defeat the New York Institute of Technology, 3-2, in East Coast Conference volleyball Thursday evening at the Recreation Hall. The match scores were 22-25, 31-33, 25-13, 25-23 and 15-11.
The win marks the third straight for the Pioneers as they even their overall record at 10-10 and 7-5 in the conference. The Bears drop to 10-22 overall and 6-7 in conference action.
Both teams tallied an even 160 hits apiece while C.W. Post recorded a .225 attacking percentage to NYIT's .150.
C.W. Post freshman outside hitter
Laura Maehlmann (Gundelfingen, Germany) led all hitters with 23 kills and 18 digs.
Junior setter
Erica Valeriano (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) helped spur the offense with 37 assists while senior right side hitter
Lucia Krskova (Prievidza, Slovakia) added 20 assists for the Pioneers.
Sophomore right side hitter Nina Cicero led the Bears with 16 kills while teammate Emily Seyers tallied a match-high 42 assists.
C.W. Post will be in action on Oct. 25 when it hosts a non-conference tilt against Franklin Pierce University at 2 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center.
