Volleyball Falls to Franklin Pierce, 3-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2008) – Junior outside hitter #Sammy Figliolia# (Wantagh, N.Y.) and senior right side hitter Lucia Krskova (Prievidza, Slovakia) registered double-doubles, as Figliolia had 12 kills and 16 digs and Krskova had 13 kills and 20 assists, but the Pioneers fell 3-1 to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's volleyball action at the Pratt Recreation Center. The match scores were 25-19, 28-26, 19-25 and 25-22.
The win puts the Pioneers at a 10-11 mark overall, while the Ravens now stand at 15-14.
Overall, the Pioneers outhit the Ravens by a 156-134 margin.
Setter Karissa Hookstadt posted a match-high 32 assists while teammate Chelsea Kohout had 17 digs.
In the first set, the Pioneers tallied 12 kills. Figliolia tallied five digs and three kills in the set.
The Pioneers extended the second set but dropped 28-26. Junior setter Erica Valeriano (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) tallied 10 assists in the set, and Krskova had six kills.
C.W. Post won the third set as Krskova tallied six kills and six digs, but the Pioneers could not overtake the Ravens in the fourth set as they hit .241 in the set but fell 25-22.
Valeriano led the Pioneers with 31 assists on the afternoon, and also got a match-high 16 kills from freshman outside hitter Laura Maehlmann (Gundelfingen, Germany).
The Pioneers take on Molloy College at home on October 28 at 7 p.m.
