Volleyball Swept By Dowling, 3-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.
(Oct. 30, 2008) – Junior outside hitter Patrycja Klekotka tallied a match-high 12 kills as Dowling College swept C.W. Post, 3-0, in East Coast Conference volleyball Thursday evening at the Pratt Recreation Center. The match scores were 25-16, 25-15 and 28-26.
 
With the win, Dowling improves to 28-5 overall and 15-0 in conference play while C.W. Post slips to 11-12 and 8-6 in the ECC.
 
The Golden Lions held a 39-29 advantage in kills and completed the game hitting at a .382 percentage (39 for 76). C.W. Post was 29 for 80 on the attack and registered a .150 hitting percentage.
 
Freshman setter Maja Potpara led the Golden Lions with a match-high 17 assists while teammate Erin Przybylowicz added 13 toward the cause.
 
Down two sets, the Pioneers fought hard to win the third set as the teams exchanged the lead six times and tied it up six times. C.W. Post tied the set at 25-all after a kill from junior outside hitter Sammy Figliolia (Wantagh, N.Y.) and with an attacking error on Dowling, led 26-25. The Golden Lions tied things up with a kill from sophomore middle blocker Monika Kasperek and took the lead for good after an attacking error from junior middle blocker Kerri Heitner (Wantagh, N.Y.).
 
Freshman outside hitter Laura Maehlmann (Gundelfingen, Germany) led the Pioneers with eight kills while senior right side hitter Lucia Krskova (Prievidza, Slovakia) added 12 assists.
 
Prior to the start of the match, head coach Russi Villalta and the C.W. Post Athletic Department honored seniors Krskova, Ashley Paredes (Islip, N.Y.) and Colleen Myers (Plantsville, Conn.).
 
C.W. Post will play in a tri-match between West Chester and Philadelphia this weekend and will resume conference play at Adelphi University on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
