Women's Soccer Ranked Fifth In Latest National Polls
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Nov. 11, 2008)- The National Soccer Coaches Association released its final regular season national polls Tuesday afternoon. C.W. Post took the fifth place slot, after previously being ranked in eighth place. The Pioneers were the only ECC team to be ranked nationally, and remained a nationally ranked team throughout the entire season.
The latest national rankings come after the Pioneers had a successful weekend, claiming the ECC Conference Championships. C.W. Post took on conference rival Dowling College, taking down the Golden Lions for the second time this season. In regular season play the Pioneers had triumphed over Dowling College by a score of 2-1. Friday the Pioneers shutout their opponent in the ECC Conference Semifinals, 1-0.
The Pioneers advanced to the ECC Conference Championships, facing the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport. C.W. Post had fallen to Bridgeport 2-1 in the team's final game of regular season play. Looking for redemption, the Pioneers outshot the Purple Knights by a 16-12 margin, ultimately winning the Championship by a score of 1-0.
C.W. Post has earned itself a bid to the NCAA Div. II Northeast Regional Championships. The Pioneers are set to host opponents University of Bridgeport and Merrimack College Nov. 14 and Nov. 16. The first round of regional play is set for Nov. 14 at 12 p.m. as the Purple Knights of Bridgeport take on the Warriors of Merrimack. Winner of the first round will advance to take on the C.W. Post Pioneers Sunday, Nov. 16 at noon.
