Swimming Competes in ESU Invite

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 4, 2008)- The Pioneers traveled to the East Stroudsburg University for the ESU Invite at Koehler Fieldhouse, and came away with nine individual event wins, a new school record, several personal-best times, and two championship qualifications.
           
Sophomore Jennifer Esposito (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.52, the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.69 and the 200-yard freestyle with a final time of 1:52.96, which set a new C.W. Post school record, as well as qualifying Esposito for the NCAA championships in that event.          
           
Junior Stephanie Palmeri (Seaford, N.Y.) placed first in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:38.08, and also swam a lifetime best 1:00.81 in the 100-yard butterfly. 
           
Freshman Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario) touched the wall first in the 400 yard IM, with a time of 4:44.55, taking more then 10 seconds of her previous time, and qualifying her for the ECAC Championship meet to be held at the end of February in Pittsburgh, Pa.   
           
Other individual winners for the Pioneers were freshman Sofi Mathsson (Stockholm, Sweden), who won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:12.12, and Brittany Roman-Green (Woodstock, N.Y.), who won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:20.16.
       
     The 200 yard medley relay team of sophomore Morgan Feliccia (Arnold, Md.), senior Paula Braband (Bethpage, N.Y.), Cassidy and Roman-Green won with a time of 1 minute, 58.03 seconds.  The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Palmeri, Braband, sophomore Josephine Tjernstrom (Bromma, Sweden), and Cassidy won the event with a time of 1:43.66. 
           
The Pioneers will now begin preparations for the post-season, and the first event on their schedule is the Metropolitan Championships, held Feb. 22-24 in Piscataway, N.J.
