GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (April 15, 2008) – The Pioneers won an East Coast Conference game over Adelphi, beating the Panthers 10-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Pioneers improve to 17-18 and 9-6 in the East Coast Conference, and Adelphi drops to 13-20 and 6-10 in the ECC.
The Pioneers got on the board in the second inning, when junior right fielder Bruce Testa (Glen Cove, N.Y.) singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. A hit batsman and a groundout put runners on second and third for senior designated hitter Mike Sylvester (Farmingdale, N.Y.), who singled to drive in both runs.
C.W. Post score three more in the third inning, when Bryan Bonin (Commack, N.Y.) and Kyle Walker (Wantagh, N.Y.) led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Testa's second hit of the game drove in two more runs for the Pioneers, and a Brian Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) single drove in the fifth run over the game.
Adelphi got a run back in the third and scored another in the fifth, but the Pioneer scored another in the sixth to extend their lead to 6-2. Adelphi scored again in the seventh to pull within three runs, but a four run eighth highlighted by a three-run triple by Chenicek, put the game out of reach for the Panthers.
