Miller, Poole Send No. 1 Women's Lacrosse Past Dowling, 15-7

– The C.W. Post women's lacrosse team rallied from an early deficit in the first half to scored 10 goals in the second half and defeat Dowling College, 15-7, Wednesday afternoon.
 
C.W. Post, ranked first in the IWLCA poll for the ninth straight week, stays unbeaten at 12-0 and improves its conference record to 4-0. The loss stops a two-game win streak for Dowling as it slips to 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Senior attacker Jenna Miller (Silver Spring, Md.) tallied four goals with three assists. Senior midfielder Mallory Poole (Corning, N.Y.) also added four scores in the game.

The Golden Lions came on strong in the first half of the game and jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from senior midfielder Lauren Marra (27:32) and freshman midfielder Cassandra Cronin (25:59).

The Pioneers answered back with a goal from Miller with an assist from junior attacker Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) at 23:45 and a free position goal from junior attacker Jaclyn Napoli (West Islip, N.Y.) at 12:33. C.W. Post went ahead when sophomore attacker Staci Passafiume (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) scored on a pass from Hogan at 12:04.

The lead did not stick as the Golden Lions scored three straight goals to take a 5-3 lead with 6:19 left to play in the half.

Poole took charge and with less than 50 seconds remaining stormed down the field and flicked the ball into the net at the 43-second mark. The Pioneers got the ball back after a foul was called on Dowling and with one second remaining in the half, Poole made a diving shot into the net on a pass from Miller tie the game at 5-all.

C.W. Post returned to form in the second half and outscored Dowling, 10-2, while outshooting the host team by a 21-9 margin.

Junior midfielder Samantha Lyons (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored three goals in the half. Poole scored the final two goals of the game with under two minutes remaining.

Sophomore attacker Vanessa Moreira, freshman midfielder Cassandra Cronin and freshman Kelly Cefalu all had two goals apiece for Dowling.

Senior Lauren Scipione (East Meadow, N.Y.) made six stops in goal to preserve her 12-0 record in goal. Freshman Rachel Goldstein made 10 saves, including seven in the second half for the Golden Lions.

C.W. Post finished the game outshooting Dowling, 30-18, while the Golden Lions held a 42-39 advantage in ground balls.

The Pioneers will begin a two-game trip to New England on Saturday, Apr. 19 against Franklin Pierce at 12 p.m. before finishing at St. Michael's College on Sunday, Apr. 20 at 12 p.m.
