BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (April 20, 2008) – The Pioneers managed only five hits in the game, and Golden Lion starter Rich Barry threw a complete game shutout as baseball dropped a 6-0 game to Dowling College on Sunday afternoon.
The win improves the Golden Lions record to 20-14 and 11-8 in the ECC, while the Pioneers drop to 19-20, and 11-7 in ECC play.
Dowling got on the board first in the 4th as Chris Caputo lined a single to left field scoring Dave Wendt. Caputo later scored the second run of the inning advancing on a wild pitch, putting Dowling ahead 2-0. Caputo would come through again in the 6th, doubling to the gap in right for his second RBI of the game. Back-to-back RBI singles up the middle gave Dowling a 5-0 advantage.
The Pioneers had a chance for a big inning in the second, when they had runners on first and third with only two outs, but a groundball double play and a groundout ended the inning without a Pioneer run.
Dowling added another a run in the 8th as Barry shut down the Pioneers for the rest of the game.
The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, April 22, as the host Felician College for a 3:30 p.m. game.
