No. 1 Women's Lacrosse Secures NCAA Tournament Berth With 13-6 Win Over No. 5 Stonehill

– Junior attacker Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored four goals and added two assists as top-ranked C.W. Post defeated fifth-ranked Stonehill College, 13-6, in women's lacrosse action Sunday afternoon. The win secures a spot in the upcoming NCAA Championship Tournament to be held in Houston, Texas in May.

C.W. Post has qualified for the four-team tournament the last three seasons.  The Pioneers captured their second national championship in 2007 with a 15-7 win over West Chester University.

C.W. Post stays undefeated at 15-0 overall while Stonehill drops to 11-3 overall. The Pioneers have defeated the Skyhawks the last three meetings, dating back to 2006.

The Pioneers outshot the Skyhawks, 27-18, and held a 16-11 ground ball advantage.

C.W. Post took a 3-0 lead on the strength of Hogan, who scored the game's first two goals. Junior midfielder Samantha Lyons (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored the third goal at 18:47. 

Stonehill climbed back into the game with three straight goals to tie it with 12:30 remaining in the half. 

The Pioneers pulled away with six unanswered goals, including two from junior attacker Jaclyn Napoli (West Islip, N.Y.) and Napoli as well as goals from senior midfielders Mallory Poole (Corning, N.Y.) and Elaine Williams (East Islip, N.Y.) to put the home team ahead, 9-3 with 27:35 left in the game.

Stonehill midfielders Liza Gross and Kristin Darrell each scored goals that cut the deficit to 9-5 with 18:01 left to play.

Sophomore midfielder Staci Passafiume (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) scored her 15th season goal at 16:49 and Williams and Napoli followed up to built C.W. Post's lead to 12-5. 

Senior midfielder Kristin Darrell scored the sixth goal for Stonehill on an assist from junior midfielder Michelle Kelly at 6:44. Napoli scored the final goal for C.W. Post with four seconds on the clock on a pass from Hogan.

Hogan and Napoli each finished the game with four goals while senior attacker Jenna Miller (Silver Spring, Md.) tallied four assists.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Scipione (East Meadow, N.Y.) made nine saves in goal to record her 15th win. 

Darrell led the Sky Hawks with two goals while Kelly recorded one goal and two assists.

Senior Amanda McGeachey made 13 saves in goal for the Skyhawks.

C.W. Post will play Adelphi University on Friday, May 2 at 4 p.m. on Hickox Field.   The winner will clinch the ECC regular season title.
