Offense Powers Baseball Past Queens, 10-1

– Three players each drove in two runs as C.W. Post defeated Queens College, 10-1, in East Coast Conference baseball Wednesday afternoon on Knights Field.

C.W. Post improves its record to 14-15 overall and 6-5 in conference play while Queens drops to 6-15 overall and 5-7 in the conference.

Senior Kevin Gerard (Levittown, N.Y.) picked up his third win of the season, pitching seven innings and letting up one run on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when first baseman Jamie Quinn, who reached base on a fielding error by the third baseman, came around to score when third baseman Michael Sporton singled.

The Pioneers answered back with single runs in the second and third inning before adding two more runs in the top of the fourth on one hit and two errors. 

C.W. Post furthered its lead with four runs in the top of the seventh that included a three-run home run from junior first baseman Anthony Montesano (Bellmore, N.Y.).

Sophomore centerfielder Mike Callaghan (East Meadow, N.Y.), junior right fielder Bruce Testa (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and senior designated hitter Mike Sylvester (Farmingdale, N.Y.) all had two hits in the game.

Sporton and catcher Jared Stoler each collected two hits apiece for the Knights. Pitcher William Marte was credited with the loss and was charged with five earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

C.W. Post will host Bryant University on Apr. 11 at 2 p.m. before resuming conference play at Concordia College on Apr. 12.
