Kay, Sylvester Earn Daktronics All-Region Notice
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 15, 2008) - The 2008 Daktronics Baseball Northeast All-Region teams were released and two Pioneers garnered spots on the teams, as voted on by the region's Sports Information Directors.
Junior pitcher
Bobby Kay (Stony Brook, N.Y.) earned First Team starting pitcher honors. Kay is currently 7-1 with a 1.36 ERA. He has four complete game shutouts, and has allowed only 12 earned runs all season. He has 79 strikeouts in 79.2 innings, and batters are hitting just .182 against him.
Senior designated hitter
Mike Sylvester (Farmingdale, N.Y.) earned Second Team kudos. Sylvester is leading the team with a .353 average. He has 72 hits, including nine doubles, a team-high five triples, and two home runs out of the leadoff spot. He also has nine stolen bases and a .397 on base percentage.
The Pioneers (29-25) captured their first ever East Coast Conference championship and advance to their first NCAA Northeast Regional since 1985. C.W. Post will face top-seeded Franklin Pierce University (39-12) in the first matchup of the Northeast regional Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at Franklin Pierce.
