Bryant Dispatches Baseball From NCAA Tourney, 10-3

RINDGE, N.H. (May 16, 2008) – Shortstop Pat McKenna batted 3 for 5 at the plate with three runs batted in and two runs scored as Bryant University advanced past C.W. Post, 10-3, in the second round of the NCAA Northeast baseball regional Friday afternoon at Pappas Field.
Bryant improves to 40-20 and will face the winner of the Southern Connecticut State University (36-18), Dowling College (29-17) game from today. C.W. Post ends its season with a 29-27 overall record.
The Bulldogs scored in the first inning when third baseman Jason Alexander scored from third on a sacrifice fly from centerfielder Nick Campbell. Bryant tacked on four additional runs in the third inning that including a three-run shot to centerfield from McKenna.
Bryant kept its momentum and in the fifth inning, scored four runs on four hits and one error. Leftfielder Pat O'Connor led off the inning with a home run to left field on a 2-2 count. Catcher Jeff Vigurs grounded out on a bunt to third base before the next two batters followed with doubles that drove in the second run of the inning and knocked C.W. Post starter
Bobby Kay (Stony Brook, N.Y.) out of the game. Right fielder Jordan English sacrificed to right field to score designated hitter Mark Dondero, who earlier had advanced to third on a wild pitch from reliever
Pete Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.). The final run of the inning came around to score on a single to first base from Alexander.
Trailing 10-0 through eight innings, senior designated hitter
Mike Sylvester (Farmingdale, N.Y.) blasted a three-run home run to left field with one out.
Bryant's Brett Almeida went the distance, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three batters.
Kay was tagged for eight earned runs on 10 hits with three strike outs and two walks.
Sylvester led the Pioneers with two hits and three RBI and a run scored.
