The post-season awards continue to pile up for Bobby Kay and Mike Sylvester, who were most recently named to the NCBWA All-Northeast Region Second Team.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 26, 2008) – Junior pitcher Bobby Kay (Stony Brook, N.Y.) and senior designated hitter Mike Sylvester (Farmingdale, N.Y.) were named to the 2008 NCBWA All-Northeast Region Second Team, it was announced Monday afternoon.

Southern Connecticut's Karl Derbacher was named the region's Player of the Year and his coach, Tim Shea, earned Coach of the Year kudos, while Franklin Pierce's Mike Adams was named Pitcher of the Year.

Kay was 7-2 this year with a 2.14 earned run average and recorded 82 strikeouts in 84 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .202 batting average. Kay recorded a season record four shutouts to add to his career total of five career shutouts. 

Sylvester had a senior season to remember, leading the team with a .358 average, notching 76 hits, including nine doubles, a team-high five triples, and three home runs out of the leadoff spot. He also has nine stolen bases and a .403 on base percentage, slugging at a .491 clip. 

The Pioneers (29-27) won their first East Coast Conference title in program history and advanced to the NCAA Northeast Regional for the first time since 1985.
