ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (May 3, 2008) -
The baseball team split an East Coast Conference doubleheader with the Lions of Molloy College on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 3-2 before dropping the second game 6-2.

C.W. Post moves to 25-24 and 15-11 in the ECC, while the Lion now stand at 27-19 overall and 15-11 in the league.

C.W. Post recorded the first run of game one during the second inning, as Mike Callaghan doubled to lead off the inning and scored on Mike Sylvester's single to second base.

Molloy tied the game with a run in the fourth, but the Pioneers regained their lead (2-1) when they notched a run in the fourth inning, as Callaghan led off the inning with a single, stole second, and scored on Mike Sylvester's single to center field.

The Lions took a run back in the bottom of the inning when Andrew Scavuzzo roped an RBI double to right field, but the Pioneers added an insurance run in the sixth, as Callaghan again led off the inning, with another single. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on a single to center, and scored on Mike Sylvester's base on balls.

That was all the offense the Pioneer pitching staff would need, as Kevin Gerard and Bobby Kay combined to allow two runs on six hits, striking out seven. Gerard earned the win, throwing five innings and moving to 5-3 while Kay's four innings in relief earned him the save, his third of the season.

Callaghan had a strong game for the Pioneers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs score. Mike Sylvester added two hits and three RBI.

The Pioneers dropped the nighcap, as the Lions strck for two runs in the second. C.W. Post scored a run in the fourth, on an Anthony Montesano RBI single to left center, but four Molloy  runs in the fourth pushed the Molloy lead to 6-1.

A seventh-inning rally fell short as Montesano doubled down the left field line and scored on Bruce Testa's fielder's choice to score the Pioneer's only run of the inning, and the Pioneers fell 6-2 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Pete Budkevics
took the loss on the mound, throwing four innings and allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out five. Jamie Garland threw two innings of solid two-hit relief.

Montesano went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the loss.

The Pioneers will play the rubber match of their three game ECC series on Sunday, May 4 at home. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
