No. 1 Women's Lacrosse Closes Out Regular Season With 19-7 Win Over Philadelphia

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.  (May 4, 2008)
– Junior attacker Jaclyn Napoli (West Islip, N.Y.) scored six goals to power top-ranked C.W. Post past Philadelphia University, 19-7, in the Pioneers' final home game of the season.

The Pioneers close out the regular season with a 16-1 overall record, including a 5-1 clip in conference play, and will await to hear NCAA tournament selections, which will be announced later Sunday evening. Philadelphia ends its season with an overall 12-5 record and 2-4 conference record.

The Pioneers outshot the Rams, 38-25, in the game and was 2-for-6 on free position shots. 

C.W. Post jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first minute and a half of the game. Philadelphia sophomore midfielder Kathleen Maurer scored at 24:46 on a pass from senior midfielder Allison Kessler. 

Junior midfielder Samantha Lyons (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the game at 24:09 that sparked a 9-0 Pioneer run. 

Philadelphia made a run in the final minutes of the half, outscoring C.W. Post by a 5-1 margin.

In the second half, Napoli led off with four straight goals through the first 11 minutes of the half to put the Pioneers ahead, 16-6. Lyons added two at 13:09 and 8:51 while junior Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) notched her third goal of the game at 12:06. Senior midfielder Mallory Poole (Corning, N.Y.) and senior attacker Jenna Miller scored the game's final two goals.       

Miller registered six assists in the game while Lyons scored five goals. Poole completed the game with three goals while Hogan notched three goals and three assists.

Senior Lauren Scipione (East Meadow, N.Y.) made 11 saves to record her 16th win in goal. 

Kessler led the Rams with three goals with an assist while Maurer had two for Philadelphia.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Staerk played a full game and made 10 saves in goal for Philadelphia.

Prior to the  game, the Pioneers honored seniors Miller, Poole, Scipione, Melissa LaDez (West Babylon, N.Y.), Gabrielle Letterel (West Islip, N.Y.), Elaine Williams (East Islip, N.Y.), and Rebecca McHale (Bellmore, N.Y.).
