Six Baseball Players Named to All-Conference Teams
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (May 7, 2008) – Senior designated hitter Mike Sylvester (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and junior pitcher Bobby Kay (Stony Brook, N.Y.) were both named to the 2008 East Coast Conference Baseball First Team, as voted on by the conference coaches.
Sylvester has had a standout season at the plate, leading the team in most offensive categories with a .359 average, five triples, 34 RBI, a .490 slugging percentage, and nine stolen bases.
Kay has turned in an excellent season as well, with a 6-1 record and a 1.43 ERA, with four complete game shutouts and only 19 runs allowed all year.
The Second Team included senior outfielder Brian Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.). Chenicek is currently batting .280 with nine doubles and 21 RBI.
The Third Team included sophomore shortstop Bryan Bonin (Commack, N.Y.), junior second baseman Kyle Walker (Wantagh, N.Y.), and junior outfielder Bruce Testa (Glen Cove, N.Y.) Bonin is currently second on the team with a .325 average and leads the team with 10 sacrifice bunts. Walker is third on the team with a .307 average and has a fielding percentage of .969, and has a team-high 37 RBI. Testa's .294 average is good for fourth on the team, and he has five assists from the outfield.
C.W. Post (26-25, 16-11 ECC) advanced to the quarterfinals of the ECC Tournament with a 10-6 win over Molloy, and will next play at Dowling College, where they will face top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas at 3 p.mm. on Friday, May 9.
