Volleyball Falls In Season Opener To Regis, 3-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Aug. 30, 2008) – Freshman outside hitter
Laura Maehlmann (Gunderfingen, Germany) registered 11 kills but it was not enough as Regis University swept C.W. Post, 3-0, in opening match of the Pioneer Invitational Thursday evening in the Pratt Recreation Center.
The match was the season opener for both squads and Regis will play Dallas Baptist on Friday at 1 p.m., before taking on Franklin Pierce at 5 p.m. C.W. Post will play Dallas Baptist at 5 p.m. before hosting a nightcap against Bentley College at 7 p.m.
Regis outhit C.W. Post .381 to .163 and held a 7-2 advantage in service aces.
Senior middle hitter Liz Franz led the match with 14 kills while teammate Devin Eckhardt talled 33 assists on the night for Regis.
Junior setter
Erica Valeriano (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 18 assists.
Trailing 18-12 in the second set, the Pioneers rallied on a 4-1 advantage to close the gap to 19-16.
