Balanced Offense Helps Volleyball Put Concordia Away, 3-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.
(Sept. 16, 2008) – C.W. Post cruised through three sets to defeat Concordia College, 3-0, in East Coast Conference volleyball action Tuesday night at the Pratt Recreation Center. The set scores were 25-10, 25-16 and 25-17.
 
C.W. Post improves to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in the conference while the Clippers slip to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
 
Freshman outside hitter Laura Maehlmann (Gunderfingen, Germany) led the offensive attack with seven kills, including five serving aces while senior right side hitter Lucia Krskova (Prievidza, Slovakia) added 12 assists.
 
In all, the Pioneers tallied 15 serving aces against the Clippers' defense.
 
Freshman outside hitter Juliann Gillespie had five kills for the Clippers while freshman setter Jaymee Wise recorded five assists.
 
The Pioneers came out in the first set firing a.412 hitting percentage while keeping the Clippers to just three kills the entire frame. Maehlmann registered four kills while Krskova added five assists.
 
In the second set, the Clippers tied the game up at 12 before the Pioneers broke away on a 13-4 run to close out the game. Sophomore setter Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) helped the offense with five assists for C.W. Post.
 
The Pioneers commanded a 19-9 lead in the final set and held off the Clippers to close out the match.
 
C.W. Post will continue conference play at the University of Bridgeport on Sept. 18 and will next host New York Institute of Technology on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center.
