Former Pioneer Standout Gerard Signs Contract With Midwest Sliders

YPSILANTI, Mich.  (Jan. 15, 2009) - Former baseball standout Kevin Gerard, who pitched for the Pioneers from 2005-2008, has signed a contract with the Midwest Sliders of the Frontier Leage.

Gerard compiled a 14-15 record during his four years as a starter for the Pioneers.  He appeared in 45 games with 39 starts, posting a 4.28 ERA and striking out 209 batters in 258.2 innings.  The lefty also tossed five complete games including one shutout during his career.

The Sliders, based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, play at Oestrike Stadium, also home to Eastern Michigan University.  The Frontier League is entering its 17th consecutive season, and is the longest continuously operating independent professional baseball league in North America.  The Sliders played every single game in 2008 on the road - 96 games total - winning 29 games.   They played in a Frontier League record 29 one-run games despite never playing in front of a home crowd.
