Schmidt Earns ECC and PrestoSports/MBWA Player of the Week Honors
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Jan. 5, 2008) - East Coast Conference released its weekly men's basketball report Monday afternoon, and C.W. Post guard Jonathan Schmidt (Centereach, N.Y.) received Player of the Week accolades following a 3-0 week for the Pioneers. In addition, PrestoSports/MBWA (Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association) tabbed Schmidt as their Player of the Week.
It is the second time this season Schmidt has been named ECC Player of the Week, and the third time for a Pioneer player.
The senior led the sixth-ranked Pioneers to a 3-0 week, pushing their overall record to a school-best 9-0 start. Schmidt connected on 58% of his shots from the floor while going 7 of 18 from three point range to score into double figures in all three games. He averaged 24.3 points per game and 7.3 boards per game while dishing out 14 total assists and snatching 6 steals. Schmidt led the team with 25 points against Assumption and followed up with a career-high 35-point effort against Goldey-Beacom.
Schmidt and the rest of the Pioneers are back in action on January 6 as they travel to Lincoln (Pa.) for a non-conference matchup beginning at 5 p.m.
