Balanced Offense Leads Volleyball Past Queens, 3-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2009)
– The C.W. Post volleyball team rebounded from an early 0-1 deficit to come back and win three straight sets and defeat Queens College, 3-1, in an East Coast Conference volleyball clash Thursday evening at the Pratt Recreation Center. The match scores were 19-25, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-17.
 
The win improves C.W. Post to 12-9 overall and 6-2 in conference play while Queens slips to 3-15 overall and 1-6 in ECC action.
 
The two teams promoted the “Dig Pink” campaign throughout the match in support of breast cancer awareness.
 
Senior middle blocker Kerri Heitner (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the Pioneers offensively with a match-high 13 kills and added three defensive blocks. Teammate Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) compiled eight kills and 17 digs. Junior setter #Amanda Ostapow# (East Setauket, N.Y.) handed out 33 assists, seven kills and seven digs for the Pioneers.
 
For Queens, sophomore outside hitter Camila Dantas (Sao Paolo, Brazil) led the charge with 12 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Latoya Edward (Castries, St. Lucia) added 17 defensive digs while senior setter Janice Loo (Woodside, N.Y.) dished out 25 assists.
 
C.W. Post outscored Queens, 45-37, in kills and took advantage of 23 Knight miscues.
 
The Pioneers return to action Oct. 24 for a rematch on the road against Dowling College. The Golden Lions came away with a 3-1 victory over the Pioneers on Sept. 29.
