Women's Lacrosse Participates In Colleluori Classic
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Oct. 3, 2009) – The C.W. Post women's lacrosse team, along with Hofstra, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Albany, Bentley, Adelphi, Stonehill, Long Island, Iona and two New York club teams participated in the first-ever Nick Colleluori Women's Lacrosse Classic, which was held on Sept. 26 at Hofstra University. The event was a resounding success as it raised $32,000 to help bring awareness for the HEADstrong Foundation and blood cancer research.
The games were spread out over three fields, including on the main turf at James M. Shuart Stadium. Highlighting the day was a speech prior to the Hofstra versus Massachusetts by Cheryl Colleluori talking about the HEADstrong Foundation, her son Nick and the first-ever event of its kind on the women's side.
"We are very honored to have hosted the first-ever Nick Colleluori Women's Lacrosse Classic," commented Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Abby Morgan. "Nick meant a lot to so many people and we hope that the $32,000 we helped raise during the event will assist in the fight against this dreaded disease."
Nick Colleluori, a member of the Hofstra men's lacrosse team, lost his battle to non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2006.
