NYIT, AIC Battle Past Volleyball

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2009)- The C.W. Post volleyball team suffered losses to the New York Institute of Technology Bears, and the American International College Yellowjackets, as the Pioneers hosted a tri-meet Saturday afternoon.
With the losses, C.W. Post falls to 12-13 overall, 6-4 in the East Coast Conference.
Despite a rally from the Pioneers, neighboring conference rival NYIT took the first match 3-1 (27-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-20). AIC swept the Bears in the second match of the day, 3-0, (25-12, 25-17, 25-20) and topped off their afternoon undefeated with a 3-0 defeat over C.W. Post (25-20, 25-21, 25-18).
Junior Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the Pioneer offense, registering a total of 21 kills and 16 digs for the afternoon. Fellow junior Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) added 65 assists to the Pioneers' efforts, including 42 against NYIT. Kirsten Taylor (South Pasadena, Cailf.) headed up C.W. Post's defensive end with eight block assists and one solo block for the day.
The Pioneers are back in action Nov. 3 as they travel to Mercy College for an ECC matchup scheduled for 7 p.m.
