Volleyball Battles From 2-0 Deficit To Defeat NYIT, 3-2

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2009) – Three players registered double-doubles for C.W. Post as the Pioneers battled back from a 2-0 deficit to turn aside the New York Institution of Technology, 3-2, in East Coast Conference women's volleyball Tuesday evening at Recreation Hall. The match scores were 21-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-16 and 15-10.
The win improves the Pioneers' overall record to 8-8 and 4-1 in conference play while the Bears fall to 6-11 overall and 1-3 in the ECC.
The Pioneers outhit the Bears by a 64-51 count and completed the game with a .284 hitting percentage. NYIT registered a .172 hitting percentage.
Freshman right side hitter Kirsten Taylor (South Pasadena, Calif.) earned the night's Fighting Spirit award for her 19 kills, 16 digs and four blocks against NYIT. Additionally, junior outside hitter Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) spiked 12 kills and added a match-high 24 digs.
Junior outside hitter Lauren Brown (Mount Gilead, N.C.) added 10 kills and 12 digs while junior setter Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) registered a season-high 51 assists for the Pioneers.
Sophomore outside hitter Tugce Sidas (Istanbul, Turkey) led the Bears with 19 kills and added eight digs followed by sophomore outside hitter Nina Cicero (Smithtown, N.Y.) added 14 kills. Freshman setter Emily Syers (East Meadow, N.Y.) sparked the NYIT offense with 38 kills.
C.W. Post returns to action Oct. 8 to host Queens College at 7 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center.
