Southern Connecticut Coasts Past Swimming, 108-90

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 14, 2009) – Southern Connecticut State University won eight of 11 events to defeat C.W. Post, 108-90, in swimming action Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Recreation Center.
For Southern Connecticut, Senior Cody Hall (Parker, Colo.) took individual wins home in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.32) and the 500 free (5:16.32). Freshman Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.) also captured a pair of individual wins, first with victory in the 400 individual medley where she finished more than 10 seconds ahead of the pack at 4 minutes, 33.18 seconds. Thomas went on to a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke, finishing at 58.82.
Junior Jennifer O'Neil (Stratford, Conn.) won the 100 free by a sliver when she touched the wall at 55.42 while freshman Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden), who was second at 55.43.
Also swimming well for the Owls was senior Emily Sundel (West Hartford, Conn.), who won the 1000 free with a final time of 11:05.01.
For the Pioneers, Hanes captured a win in the 50 free when she clocked in at 25.03, just ahead of senior Brittany Roman-Green (Woodstock, N.Y.), who checked in at 25.20.
Hanes and Roman-Green combined with senior Dora Biocic (Zagreb, Croatia) and junior Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario) for a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, coasting in at 1:50.74.
Cassidy went on to claim a victory in the 100 fly, tapping the wall ahead of SCSU's Hall at 58.52. Hall was second at 59.88.
C.W. Post returns to action Nov. 20 when it hosts the U.S. Military Academy at 5 p.m.
