Guadagnini Leads Volleyball To Upset Victory Over Bridgeport On Senior Night, 3-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2009)
– Junior outside hitter Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) registered a match-high 19 kills and 20 assists as C.W. Post defeated East Coast Conference leader University of Bridgeport, 3-1, in volleyball action Thursday evening at the Pratt Recreation Center. 
 
The Pioneers improve to 14-13 overall and 8-4 in conference action while the Purple Knights slip to 29-6 overall and 10-2 in the ECC. C.W. Post received the No. 3 seed in the upcoming ECC Championships and will once again play No. 2 Bridgeport on Nov. 13 at host Dowling College. 
 
Guadagnini earned the Fighting Spirit Award for her efforts by head coach Shellane Ogoshi.

C.W. Post hit a collective .189 as a team and took advantage of 46 Bridgeport miscues. Bridgeport hit .094 from the floor.
 
Junior setter Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) gave the offense a spark with 44 assists and added nine defensive digs, two service aces and two blocks. Senior middle blocker Kerri Heitner (Wantagh, N.Y.) helped preserve the win with six blocks while registering 10 kills.
 
Junior outside hitter Terry Masava (Nairobi, Kenya) led the Purple Knights with 10 kills and 18 digs while teammate Ivana Kovacevic-Jurasin (Belgrade, Serbia) also had a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. Senior outside hitter Juliana Moraes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) tallied 20 digs, six kills and five assists.
 
Prior to the match, Ogoshi and the Pioneers recognized Heitner and Martina DiSanto (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) for their accomplishments as a senior class.
