Swimming Opens 2009-10 Season With 108-97 Win Over Queens

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Nov. 4, 2009) – C.W. Post opened the 2009 season with a 108-97 win over Queens College Wednesday evening.
 
Senior Dora Biocic (Zagreb, Croatia) captured wins in the 50 freestyle (27.22) and the 100 free (58.76).
 
Junior Sofi Mathsson (Stockholm, Sweden) was first in the 200 free when she was first to the wall at 2:07.83. 
 
Meanwhile freshman Kristina Fritsch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior Josephine Tjernstrom (Bromma, Sweden) had strong finishes in the 500 free as Fritsch was first at 5:34.47 and Tjernstrom immediately followed at 5:34.50. Fritsch also won the grueling 1650 free, checking in at 19:01.02.
 
Senior Morgan Feliccia (Arnold, Md.) recorded a win in the 100 backstroke and finished at 1:02.25. Junior Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario) won the 100 breast with a final time of 1:10.57. 
 
Freshman Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden) wasted no time getting acclimated to college swimming when she paced herself to a win in the 100 fly (1:01.26). Freshman Carly Marshall (Cornwall, N.Y.) came in second at 1:04.01.
 
Marshall came in first in the 200 individual medley at 2:19.55. Senior Brittany Roman-Green (Woodstock, N.Y.) followed second at 2:21.47.
 
Feliccia, Hanes, Cassidy and Fritsch combined to win the 200 free relay and placed first at 1:44.54. In the 200 medley relay, Roman-Green, Biocic, Marshall and Tjernstrom cruised to a first place finish at 1:55.75.
 
C.W. Post returns to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 7 when it hosts Sacred Heart University at 1 p.m.
