Buzzer Beater Lifts NYIT Over Men's Basketball, 58-57

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Dec. 12, 2009)
– Despite a strong performance from junior forward Aaron Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) with 15 points, the C.W. Post Pioneers lost a buzzer beater to New York Institute of Technology, 58-57, in an East Coast Conference men's basketball tilt Saturday afternoon.
Junior guard Eric Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) knocked down a 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds on the clock. C.W. Post's Gil Montalvo (Astoria, N.Y.) missed a 1-and-1 attempt after a NYIT foul and the Bears held on for the win.
C.W. Post completed the game shooting .390 (23 of 59) from the field and held a 22-9 advantage in points off turnovers. NYIT shot .379 (22 of 58). Both teams grabbed 40 balls off the glass in the game.
The Pioneers led by as many as 12 points (56-44) in the second half before the Bears came storming back into the game with an 11-0 run that sized the lead down to one (56-55) with 1:20 left on the clock. 
Hall converted a free throw with 21 ticks left on the clock but the Bears ran the clock down before Rodriguez the long shot for the win.
The Pioneers controlled the tempo in the first half and outscored the Bears, 24-9, through the first 12 and a half minutes of play. 
NYIT regained its composure and went on a 19-2 run courtesy of a trey from Rodriguez at 8:37. The run was capped off with another three from Rodriguez at 3:45, giving NYIT a 27-26 lead.
The Pioneers came back with a back-to-back layup and jumper from Hall to take a 30-27 lead. 
Senior forward Arthur Braswell (Compton, Calif.) attempted a 3-pointer at the buzzer but to no avail as C.W. Post led 30-28 at the half.
Hall led the Pioneers with 15 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Roberto Macklin (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) added six points and seven rebounds.
Rodriguez registered a game-high 17 points for the Bears. Braswell pulled down 12 rebounds off the glass.
