Women's Lacrosse Picked Second In ECC Preseason Polls
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Feb. 17, 2009) - The East Coast Conference released its preseason polls today, placing the Pioneers in the second place slot, just behind conference rival Adelphi University.
Adelphi topped the poll with three first-place votes, as voted on by the conference's coaches, while C.W. Post received two first-place votes and 21 points.
C.W. Post finished the 2008 season with a 17-2 overall record, including an appearance in the Division II Women's Lacrosse National Championships. The Pioneers found themselves just short as they fell to rival West Chester University 13-12, in the championship final.
C.W. Post looks to bring itself to the top of the conference under the direction of second-year head coach Meghan McNamara. In 2008, McNamara was picked as the IWLCA North Region Coach of the Year. She returns eight starters to the field, including three All-America picks and two ECC All-Star team members. Senior midfielder Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, N.Y.), a two-year First Team All-American, was picked as Division II Player of the Year for the 2009 season by Lacrosse Magazine.
The Pioneers began their season with a 16-11 loss to Division I Davidson College. They look to improve their record and climb to the top of the conference as they travel to Georgian Court University on March 10 for a 3:30 p.m. game.
