Baseball Holds Off Bloomfield, 6-5

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 18, 2009) – The Pioneers scored six runs early and held off a comeback-minded Bloomfield College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action.
The Pioneers improve to 3-14 while the Deacons slip to 2-11.
The Pioneers struck for three runs in the third as
Anthony Montesano (Bellmore, N.Y.) belted a two-out, two-run double down the left field line to cap the inning.
C.W. Post doubled the lead with another three run in the fourth, as a two-out rally on a hit batter, two singles and a
Bryan Bonin (Commack, N.Y.) double gave the Pioneers a 6-0 lead.
Bloomfield made the game close in the fifth as they scored four runs off starter
Glen Hudson (West Sayville, N.Y.). Another run in the sixth pulled the Deacons to within 6-5, but strong relief by
Pete Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y. ) and
Bobby Kay (Stony Brook, N.Y.), who combined for three shutout innings and allowed only one hit, sealed the win for the Pioneers.
Hudson went six innings and scattered ten hits, giving up five runs (four earned) and striking out four.
Offensive support came from
Edward Bartley (Bethpage, N.Y.), Montesano, and
#P.J. Ragone# (Deer Park, N.Y.) who each had two hits for the home team.
The Pioneers will take on Dowling College in a doubleheader in Oakdale, N.Y. on Saturday at 1 p.m.
