BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 13, 2009) - Junior pitcher Pete Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.) took a two-hit shutout into the ninth inning, but gave up three unearned runs in the tenth, and despite 14 strikeouts by the righty, the Pioneers fell 3-0 to Queens College in the 10th inning on Monday afternoon in East Coast Conference baseball action.
The Pioneers slip to 9-21 and 6-3 in the ECC with the loss, while the Knights improve to 3-15 and 2-10 in ECC play with the victory.
Jared Stoler led off the top of the tenth with a single to center, and Jeffrey Gomez followed with a  walk. A throwing error by Budkevics on a bunt by Luis Rojas scored Stoler and put runners on second and third. Reliever Glen Hudson (West Sayville, N.Y.) gave up a two-run single to Tom Mercantante that would be all the run support Queens starter Brian Friedman would need.
Friedman went all ten innings in the shutout, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out eight.
C.W. Post will look to rebound tomorrow as they travel to Queens for a 3 p.m. game.
