Volleyball Takes Two At Indiana (Pa.) Invitational; Pioneers Capture Wins Against West Virginia Wesleyan (3-0) and St. Augustine's (3-1)

INDIANA, Pa. (August 29, 2009) – The C.W. Post volleyball team closed out the Indiana (Pa.) Invitational with wins against West Virginia Wesleyan (3-0) and St. Augustine's (3-1) Saturday afternoon.
 
The Pioneers improve to 3-1 on the season and are back in action Aug. 5 at Southern Connecticut State University.
 
Junior setter Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) registered 58 assists with 28 in each match for the Pioneers.
 
Against St. Augustine's, the Pioneers took the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-11 before the Falcons rallied to take the third set, 25-23. The Pioneers set aside the Falcons in the fourth set with a 25-11 score. 
 
Senior outside hitter Kerri Heitner (Wantagh, N.Y.) tallied 14 kills while freshman Geony Fisher (Goodyear, Ariz.) added nine for C.W. Post. For the Falcons, Roxanne Smith tallied 22 assists in the four-set match.
 
The Pioneers held a 43-24 advantage in kills with a .212 hitting percentage (43 of 99) against the Falcons. St. Augustine's registered a .064 attacking percentage (23 of 78).
 
Against West Virginia Wesleyan, the Pioneers shut out the Bobcats, 25-15, 25-19 and 25-15. 
 
C.W. Post outscored the Bobcats 37-23 on the attack and forced 11 reception errors.
 
Junior outside hitter Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the Pioneer offense with nine kills and nine defensive digs. Junior outside hitter Lauren Brown (Mount Gilead, N.C.) added 11 defensive digs while freshman middle blocker Kirsten Taylor (South Pasadena, Calif.) helped out defensively with two block solos and three assisted blocks in the match.
 
For West Virginia, Hayley Barhorst registered 18 assists and Sarah Burton added 12 digs.
