GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2009)
– Sophomore setter Erika Loomer (Gill, Mass.) registered a double-double as the Adelphi University Panthers cruised to a 3-0 win over the C.W. Post Pioneers Tuesday evening in a non-conference volleyball match. The match scores were 7-25, 13-25 and 16-25.
 
Adelphi improves to 8-5 overall while C.W. Post falls to 3-7.
 
Leading 10-5 in the first set, the Panthers outscored the Pioneers 15-2 to capture its first win of the night.
 
In the second set, after a 5-0 start for Adelphi, the Pioneers closed the gap to 13-10 after a kill from junior outside hitter Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) followed a service ace from junior Kim Lubeski (Bishopville, Md.). The Panthers proceeded on a 9-1 run that gave them a 22-11 cushion. Adelphi won the final point on an unforced attacking error by junior outside hitter Lauren Brown (Mount Gilead, N.C.).
 
Adelphi started the third set out of the gate with a 7-1 spurt. The Pioneers rallied to cut the lead to 16-12 that included three kills from freshman right side hitter Kirsten Taylor (South Pasadena, Calif.). Adelphi answered with a 9-4 run and ended the match with the help of a service ace from freshman right side hitter Samantha Rico (Port Jefferson, N.Y.).
 
Adelphi outscored the Pioneers 31-16 in kills and registered a .222 hitting percentage throughout the match.
 
Taylor led the Pioneers offensively with six kills and five digs while Lubeski added 10 digs. Junior setter Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) added 12 assists for C.W. Post.
 
C.W. Post will open conference play at Molloy College on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
