Volleyball Serves Up Win At Molloy, 3-1, In ECC Opener

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2009)
– Freshman rightside hitter Kirsten Taylor (South Pasadena, Calif.) tallied a game-high 20 kills and junior outside hitter Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) added 19 as C.W. Post defeated Molloy College, 3-1, in the East Coast Conference volleyball opener Thursday evening at Quealy Gymnasium. The match scores were 25-18, 15-25, 25-23 and 25-16.
 
C.W. Post improves to 4-7 overall and 1-0 in the ECC while Molloy slips to 3-8 overall and 0-1 in the ECC.
 
The Pioneers outhit the Lions, 54-39, and capitalized on 29 Molloy errors.
 
Junior setter Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) led the match with 48 assists and registered a double-double with 11 digs. Guadagnini also recorded a double-double with 13 digs.
 
The Pioneers maintained the lead throughout the first set as Taylor led with seven kills. Senior middle blocker Kerri Heitner (Wantagh, N.Y.) added six kills and Ostapow tallied 17 assists.
 
Molloy rebounded in the second set and jumped out to a 9-1 lead. Freshman outside hitter Jenna Faggione (Hicksville, N.Y.)led the Lions with six kills.
 
The teams battled it out in the third and the Pioneers took the win with the help of Taylor and Guadagnini's five kills apiece.
 
In the fourth set, the Pioneers broke from a 10-10 tie and went on to outscore the Lions, 15-6 to close out the set.
 
Taylor, Ostapow and Heitner each registered two blocks in the match.
 
C.W. Post returns to action Sept. 19 at Saint Rose College.
