Volleyball Eases Past Molloy, 3-0, To Win Home Opener

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2009) – The C.W. Post volleyball team needed just three sets against Molloy College to pick up its third conference win with a 3-0 win over the Lions in East Coast Conference volleyball action Thursday evening at the Pratt Recreation Center. The match scores were 25-13, 25-17, and 25-18.
C.W. Post improves to 7-7 overall and 3-0 in conference action. Molloy slips to 5-10 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Pioneers held a 39-25 advantage in kills with a .265 hitting percentage and took advantage of 21 Molloy miscues on attack.
Junior outside hitter Lauren Brown (Mount Gilead, N.C.) registered a double-double with a match-high 13 kills and 12 digs for the Pioneers. Freshman right side hitter Kirsten Taylor (South Pasadena, Calif.) added 11 kills and eight digs while junior setter Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) helped out with 35 digs.
Sophomore right side hitter Angelica Nicalek (Valley Stream, N.Y.) led the Lions with 11 tallies and added seven assists. Freshman setter Jennifer Koelbel (West Hempstead, N.Y.) registered 25 digs.
Following the game, C.W. Post head coach Shellane Ogoshi announced Taylor as the game's recipient of the Fighting Spirit Award, inspired by the player who plays with the most heart.
C.W. Post returns to action Sept. 29 when it hosts Dowling College in the Pratt Recreation Center at 7 p.m.
