Volleyball Loses Thriller To Dowling, 3-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2009)
– The C.W. Post volleyball team lost a close match to Dowling College, 3-1, Tuesday evening in an East Coast Conference clash at the Pratt Recreation Center. The match scores were 25-22, 16-25, 24-26, and 20-25.
 
Dowling improves to 12-4 overall and 3-0 in the ECC. The loss snaps a four-game win streak for the Pioneers as they slip to 7-8 overall and 3-1 in ECC action.
 
Sophomore setter Maja Potpara (Pljevlja, Montenegro) registered a triple-double with 11 kills, 26 assists and 14 digs. Senior outside hitter Patrycja Klekotka (Siedlce, Poland) led the Golden Lions with 15 kills. 
 
Freshman outside hitter Kirsten Taylor (South Pasadena, Calif.) tallied 10 kills and 11 digs for the Pioneers. Junior setter Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) added 31 assists and 10 digs.
 
C.W. Post won the first set and was led by junior outside hitter Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) with four kills. The Pioneers took advantage of 12 Dowling miscues, including six reception errors.
 
Dowling rebounded in the second set and outscored the Pioneers 9-3 to close out the set. Klekotka tallied five kills, including a service ace, for the Golden Lions.
 
Dowling commanded a 23-15 lead in the third set before allowing the Pioneers to climb back and tie the game at 24-all. The Golden Lions staved off the threat with kills from Erin Przybylowicz (Ridley Park, Pa.) and Bethany Shepard (Lakewood, Colo.).
 
The teams played a tight game during the final set and exchanged the lead throughout. The Pioneers held a 15-14 lead until an attacking error from Taylor gave the Golden Lions the lead for good.
