No. 8 Field Hockey Can't Hold Off American International In 3-2 Loss

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2010)
– American International College scored two second half goals to overcome No. 8 C.W. Post, 3-2, in a non-conference field hockey match Tuesday afternoon on Hickox Field.
 
AIC improves its overall record to 9-7 while C.W. Post dips to 8-7.
 
The Yellow Jackets took a 1-0 lead when Kat Heterbring scored in the 10th minute from 10 yards out on a feed from Linsey Fernandes.
 
The Pioneers matched it minutes later when senior forward Amanda Nann (Hamburg, N.J.) tipped the b all in off a penalty corner from senior defender Vicky DeRosa (Wading River, N.Y.) at 13:47.
 
C.W. Post took the lead when freshman forward Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) fired a shot into the lower right corner on a pass from sophomore forward Mia Paltrineri (Middletown, Del.) at 21:39 to give the home team a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
 
At the break, the Pioneers were outshooting the Yellow Jackets by a 16-6 count and had an 8-4 advantage on penalty corners.
 
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets rebounded to tie the game with a goal from Amanda McLean in the 45th minute. 
 
The teams played both kept the defense busy in the final minutes as each goalkeeper made four saves apiece.
 
The turning point in the game came with 1:29 to play in the game when McLean was awarded a penalty stroke and successfully shot it past senior Cortney Colern (Barker, N.Y.) for the game-winner.
 
Colern made five saves in goal for the Pioneers. Her counterpart, Kim Steiner, led the game with 14 stops for the Yellow Jackets.
 
C.W. Post is back in action on Oct. 30 when it faces No. 5 Kutztown on the road at 1 p.m.
