LeMoyne Overcomes Men's Basketball, 75-66
SRYACUSE, N.Y. (Dec. 19, 2010) – Kevin Roth scored a game-high 32 points to cap a second half that saw the LeMoyne Dolphins reverse a halftime deficit and earn a 75-66 victory over the C.W. Post men's basketball team on Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers slip to 4-5 on the season while LeMoyne boosts its record to 4-6.
C.W. Post shot 39% from the floor (23-59), making 40.7% (11-27) from beyond the arc. Led by 19 points from senior forward
Aaron Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.), who shot 7-17 from the floor, the Pioneers were outrebounded 43-27 and had a 15-8 turnover-assist ratio. Also registering in double figures for the Pioneers were
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) with 16 points and
Gil Montalvo (Astoria, N.Y.) with 12 points.
The Pioneers led 36-31 at halftime, and were able to hold their opponents at bay until the Dolphins turned the tables with 7:27 left in the second half off a layup from guard Nate Champion to take a one point lead. LeMoyne remained on top, stifling the Pioneer's offense for the final minutes of the game.
A formidable offensive effort from Can Ozkaner and Kevin Roth maintained a slight lead to ensure a Dolphin's win. With 17 seconds left on the clock, LeMoyne forward Michael Goodman banked a free throw to give Lemoyne a 12 point lead, the biggest deficit either team faced throughout the entire game.
Despite last minute efforts, including a three point shot from
Billy Butler (Elmont, N.Y.) the Dolphins clung to a nine point lead to clinch the win.
The Pioneers will return to the court Sunday, January 2, as they host non-conference opponent Post University. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
