Men's Basketball Closes Out Regular Season Slate With 77-72 Win At Queens

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 27, 2010) – Four players boasted double scoring figures as C.W. Post closed out the regular season schedule and captured its sixth straight victory with a 77-72 win over Queens College Saturday evening in and East Coast Conference men's basketball clash at Fitzgerald Gym.
C.W. Post improves to 22-5 overall and 18-3 in conference action while Queens slips to 17-10 overall and 14-7 in ECC action.
Junior forward Aaron Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the way for the Pioneers with 19 points while senior forward Nemanja Jokic (Somber, Serbia) chipped in 18 points with five rebounds, one assist, one block and three steals. Senior guard Roberto Macklin (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) added 16 and junior guard Gil Montalvo (Astoria, N.Y.) scored 12.
Queens junior forward Akim Neverson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) registered a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds and added two blocks and two steals.
Queens held a 14-9 with 14:39 to play in the first half, but the Pioneer defense made the necessary matchups and held the host team scoreless over the next five minutes and in the process capitalized with a 13-0 run to take a 22-14 lead.
The Knights scored their next field goal when junior guard Anderson Labase (Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit a jumper and converted a traditional three-point play after drawing a foul on junior guard Deshawn Gibbons (Roxbury, Mass.).
C.W. Post regained its momentum and outscored the Knights 9-0 to build its lead as high as 14 (31-17) with 3:23 left to play.
Macklin led the team in scoring with 10 points in 15 minutes of action.
Queens climbed back into the thick of things midway through the second half when Anderson hit a long three at 12:58 that started up a 12-2 run, eventually shifting the balance back in favor of the Knights as they grabbed the lead (51-50) back with 10:06 left to play.
But the lead would not stick and a quick jumper from Montalvo at 9:44 restored the lead for the Pioneers.
The Knights threatened again with under a minute to play when a trifecta from senior guard Khaleef Allicott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) at the 41-second mark cut the lead to five (73-68). But even after drawing shooting foul with 31 seconds on the clock, the Knights missed an opportunity to further cut into the lead when Alicott missed two free throws.
C.W. Post was able to secure its lead when Macklin and Montalvo each sank a pair of clutch free throws.
C.W. Post shot .545 (30 of 55) from the field and was 13-for-20 from the free throw line. The Pioneers also won out on the boards with a 34-33 advantage in rebounds.
Queens shot .443 (27 of 61) from the field, including 9-for-22 from behind the arc. Anderson completed the game with 18 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal.
