(Mar. 20, 2010)- Senior attacker Staci Passafiume (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) scored two goals and notched a season-high five assists to lead the C.W. Post Pioneers past the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College, 18-6, as the two teams participated in Lax4Life Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore attacker Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with three goals for the afternoon while junior Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.) added four assists to the effort.
The Pioneers maintain an unblemished 3-0 overall record with the win, while the Purple Knights fall to 0-3.
C.W. Post opened up a 10 goal scoring run less than two minutes into the first half, as Spagnoletta connected with Fucich to put the Pioneers on the board. Passafiume scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart to give C.W. Post a 3-0 lead. Senior midfielder Brianne Jackolski (Shirley, N.Y.) then received a feed from sophomore Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) to increase the Pioneers lead to four goals. Midfielder Kim Williams (Long Valley, N.J.) and Olen each tallied a goal off assists from Passafiume to keep C.W. Post's momentum up and give the Pioneers a six goal cushion.
Two goals from Spagnoletta, along with goals from senior Kian Lyons (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and sophomore Ashley Janelli (Glen Head, N.Y.) would put the Pioneers up by 10 goals with eight minutes remaining in the first half. freshman attacker Eliza Scoba (Franklin, Mass.) scored her first of three goals for the Purple Knights with 30 seconds left on the clock before freshman Megan Noone (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) connected with Fucich to close out the first half with an 11-1 lead for C.W. Post.
Saint Michael's kicked off the second half as Scoba capitalized on a free position shot to cut the Pioneers' lead down to nine. Williams then scored her second goal of the afternoon, while sophomore Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.) added two of her own, giving C.W. Post a comfortable 14-2 lead with 22:22 left on the clock. Olen and freshman Abigail Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) each scored unassisted goals, followed by a goal by Morgan Chiarenza (Nesconset, N.Y.) off a feed from Angel Nischo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) to cap off a seven goal run for C.W. Post with 14 minutes left in play. Despite four more goals by the Purple Knights, C.W. Post captured a 18-6 victory of St. Michael's
Junior Sam Powers (Holbrook, N.Y.) made two saves during 30 minutes between the pipes for the Pioneers. Freshman keeper Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) blocked four shots in net for C.W. Post. 
Sophomore Sandra Palumbo (Guilford, Conn.) started off in goal for Saint Michael's, making seven saves before junior Meghan McLaughlin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) closed out the game in net for the Purple Knights, stopping five shots.
C.W. Post held a 20-12 advantage in ground balls over the Purple Knights and completed 11 of 13 clear attempts successfully. The Pioneers outshot their opponent by a 32-17 margin and won 14 draw controls.
C.W. Post is back in action Sunday, March 21, at Bentley University for a 12 p.m. matchup.
