BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 6, 2010) – The C.W. Post baseball team suffered two tough defeats at the hands of Concordia and Dominican on Saturday as part of the Palm Beach Challenge, dropping a hard-fought 7-5 loss to the Clippers before succumbing to a 15-4 decision to the Chargers.

The defeats drop the Pioneers to 1-2 overall.

Game one saw the Pioneers jump out to an early 1-0 lead as Zack Graczyk (Carmel, N.Y.) scored on a stand-up triple by senior shortstop Bryan Bonin (Commack, N.Y.).  Senior left fielder Kyle Dean (Southbury, Conn.) gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead with an RBI single through the left side in the fourth inning.

However, Concordia put together a four-run fifth inning, with a Greg Conway booming double to left field coming as the big blow.  Another Clipper run in the sixth put the visitors up 5-2.

The  Pioneers scratched out a run in the seventh as senior right fielder Mike Callaghan (East Meadow, N.Y.) singled to drive in Graczyk.  They would tie the game in the eighth as two runs came across on a infield error by the Clippers.

But Concordia was able to reclaim the lead in the ninth as T.J. Walsh knocked a single to right field that plated two runs and gave the Clippers a 7-5 advantage that would lead to the eventual win.

Against Dominican, the Pioneers got behind early as the Chargers took a two-run lead in the first, followed by another five runs in the second and sixth in the third.  C.W. Post was unable to regroup from the deficit as they lost the nightcap 15-4.

The Pioneers remain in action tomorrow as they take on Felician College at 2:15 p.m.
