LANTANA, Fla. (March 9, 2010) –
The C.W. Post baseball team continued its Florida trip at the Palm Beach Challenge with a tough 2-1 loss to Bloomfield on Tuesday morning.

The Pioneers slip to 2-4 on the season.

Freshman pitcher Ryan O'Kelly  put up good numbers in his first collegiate start, throwing five innings and allowing only two runs on five hits while striking out three and walking two.

Bloomfield took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third as the leadoff batter reached on a dropped third strike and came around to score on a passed ball.

But the Pioneers tied up the game as Nick Compito (Syosset, N.Y.) worked a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fourth.  He moved to second on a single by freshman Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) and to third on a sacrifice, and scored on senior outfielder Kyle Dean's (Southbury, Conn.) single to first base.

Bloomfield answered in the sixth as they scored what would be the eventual game-winner on a bases-loaded infield single.

Senior lefty Brian Saldana (Deer Park, N.Y.) was strong in relief as he threw three shutout innings allowing only two hits.

The Pioneers got two hits from Compito and Chenicek, and Dean had a hit and an RBI.  C.W. Post also made several excellent plays in the field including a diving catch in left field by Dean, a strong throw from right field by Mike Callaghan (East Meadow, N.Y.) that cut down a Bloomfield runner attempting to go first-to-third, and a running backhand spear of a line drive by senior shortstop Bryan Bonin (Commack, N.Y.).

The Pioneers wrap up their Florida trip as they play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 9 a.m.
