No. 3 Women's Lacrosse Romps Past Seton Hill, 20-3

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 10, 2010) – Senior midfielder Brianne Jackolski (Shirley, N.Y.) amassed seven points on four goals and three assists, and sophomore attacker Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) added five goals of her own, as the  third-ranked C.W. Post women's lacrosse team routed East Coast Conference opponent Seton Hill, 20-3, on Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field.

The Pioneers improve to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in ECC play, while Seton Hill slides to 5-3, 1-1 in conference play.

Jackolski opened the scoring by connecting with teammate Staci Passafiume (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) at 29:06 for a 1-0 lead.

Sophomore midfielder Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) scored an unassisted tally at 27:20 and put C.W. Post up 2-0.  Passafiume and Jackolski teamed up again at 26:14, followed by an Abigail Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) goal from a Jackolski pass at 25:31 that put C.W. Post up 4-0.  Passafiume connected with Olen at 24:15 to give the Pioneers a 5-0 lead.

The Griffins finally got on the scoreboard as Amanda Malkowski (Bel Air, Md.) scored an unassisted goal at 21:40, and Morgan Cain (Fairmont, W.V.) scored on a free position shot at 18:54, and the Griffins cut the lead to 5-2. 

Kim Williams (Long Valley, N.J.) scored an unassisted goal at 17:59, followed by tallies from Olen, Jackolski, and sophomore midfielder Ashley Janelli (Glen Head, N.Y.) rounded out the half and put C.W. Post up 9-2 heading into the midway break.

Olen opened the scoring in the second half at 29:02, putting C.W. Post up 10-2.  The Pioneers then went on a 10-0 romp, getting another from Spagnoletta, another from Passafiume, two more from Olen and Jackolski, and single goals from Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.), Ross, Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.) and freshman Morgan Chiarenza (Nesconset, N.Y.), as C.W. Post took a 20-2 lead and complete control of the game.  The Griffins managed just one more tally, an unassisted goal from Ashley White (Pittsburgh, Pa.) with ten seconds remaining in the game.

Freshman goalkeeper Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) earned her second win onf the season, allowing two goals and making five stops in 41:01 minutes in the net.  Junior keeper Sam Powers (Holbrook, N.Y.) allowed one goal in 18:59 minutes of action.

Seton Hill keeper Julie Woodburn (Leonardtown, Md.) made 13 saves for the Griffins.

In addition to Jackolski and Olen, C.W. Post got a four-point outing from Passafiume (2 g, 2 a) and Ross (2 g, 2 a), along with two goals and an assist from Spagnoletta.

The Pioneers outshot the Griffins, 44-10, picking up 29 ground balls to Seton Hill's 14.  C.W. Post won 13 draw controls and was successful on 13-of-15 clear attempts. 

The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday, April 14, as they travel to Queens College for another ECC matchup.
