Baseball Finishes Off Queens, 11-5

FLUSHING, N.Y. (April 11, 2010) - Sophomore third baseman
Nick Compito (Syosset, N.Y) drove in five runs, and five other Pioneers had at least two hits as the C.W. Post baseball team defeated Queens College, 11-5, on Sunday afternoon in East Coast Conference baseball action.
The Pioneers improve to 18-9-1 overall, and 16-4 in the East Coast Conference, while Queens slips to 10-22, 5-15 in ECC play.
The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead in the first, as senior right fielder
Mike Callaghan (East Meadow, N.Y.) drove in freshman center fielder
Zack Graczyk (Carmel, N.Y.) on a first inning single, and
Callaghan subsequently scored on a wild pitch to tack on another run.
David Fisher singled with one out in the third, and stole second, then third, scoring on an infield error to score a run for the Knights.
A pair of homers in the fourth inning hurt the Pioneers, as Jeff Gomez ripped a solo shot that knotted up the score in the beginning of the fourth. After a single and a walk, Fisher ripped a four-bagger of his own, pushing the Knights to a 5-2 lead.
But the ever-resilient Pioneers did damage of their own in the sixth, as freshman designated hitter
Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) drew a one-out walk to get things started. A single by
Stephen Orefice (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and another walk to senior left fielder
Kyle Dean (Southbury, Conn.) loaded the base bases, and freshman
Casey McKay (North Massapequa, N.Y.) singled to drive in two runs and make the score 5-4. An infield error scored another run and tied up the game, and Compito ripped a bases-loaded triple to score three more runs and tilt the score to 9-5, in favor of C.W. Post.

Senior pitcher
Pete Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.) earned the win, improving to 5-0 on the season, as he went five innings and gave up five runs (four earned) on five hits, striking out five and walking one.
A trio of Pioneers turned in shutout relief, as sophomore
Mike Behar (Staten Island, N.Y.) went one and two thirds innings and gave up one hit, junior
Marshall Kapson (Commack, N.Y.) tossed 1.1 innings, and junior
Chris Armstrong (Highland Mills, N.Y.) finished off with a scoreless ninth innings as he struck out the side.
Timothy Francis went 5.1 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. He struck out four and walked four.
In addition to Compito's two runs and five RBI at the plate, Graczyk went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Callaghan was 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, freshman catcher
Anthony Corona (Carmel, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, and McKay had two hits with two RBI.
