Big Hits Rally Baseball To 7-1 Victory Over Felician

LYNDHURST, N.J. (April 16, 2010) – The C.W. Post baseball team collected 11 hits to defeat Felician College, 7-1, in a rain-shortened five inning game Friday evening at Lyndhurst Recreation Field.
C.W. Post improves to 20-9-1 overall while the loss drops Felician drops to 21-17.
C.W. Post took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when senior right fielder Mike Callaghan (East Meadow, N.Y.) hit an RBI single up the middle to score senior shortstop Bryan Bonin (Commack, N.Y.), who reached on a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
The Pioneers broke open the game in the third when they scored five runs on four hits and two errors. Freshman catcher Anthony Corona (Carmel, N.Y.) drove in two when he laced a triple to right center. Sophomore designated hitter Nick Compito (Jericho, N.Y.) followed in the next at bat with an RBI single up the middle.
After a pitching change, the Pioneers added two more runs in the inning when senior left fielder Kyle Dean (Southbury, Conn.) hit a bases-loaded single to center.
Compito recorded his second RBI in the game with an RBI single in the top of the fourth.
Felician got on the board when freshman left fielder Joe Petosa (Spotswood, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice as senior designated hitter Marcos Torres (Miami, Fla.) came around to score from third.
Senior Brian Saldana (Deer Park, N.Y.) was effective on the mound, pitching five complete innings and allowing one run on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Corona batted 3-for-3 with with two RBI and a run scored and Compito finished the game batting 2-for-3 with two RBI and run scored. Bonin was 1-for-3 and came around to score three times.
Freshman John Siedler (Jackson, N.J.) took the loss after allowing six runs on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
C.W. Post returns to action on Sunday, April 18 for a doubleheader at Concordia College with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
